guide of pearl necklace and pearl strand lengths, descriptions
of where the pearl necklace will sit on the wearer and suggestions
of particular clothing styles these pearl necklace lengths

The Pearl Collar > 12 to 13 inches
Pearl collars (Collier de Chien), which are 12 to 13 inches
long, are made of three or more pearl strands. They sit
securely at the middle of the neck. For an elegant look,
wear the Pearl collar necklace with a plunging neckline,
v-neck or strapless dress. For a preppy or nautical look,
wear a pearl collar necklace with a crew neck shirt or sweater.
The Pearl Choker > 15 to 17 inches
Pearl chokers, which are 15 to 17 inches in length, sit
at about the collar bone. Our 16” length pearl
necklaces are the most classic choice, and always our recommendation
if you are undecided between a 16” and 18” length
pearl necklace. A pearl choker necklace complements
formal wear, wedding gowns, and business attire. The pearl
choker necklace also adds a touch of elegance and polish
to the relaxed look of jeans and a collared button-down

The Princess Necklace > 17 to 19 inches
The princess necklace is about 17 to 19 inches long. Our
18” strand will rest just below the collar bone. A
traditional pearl necklace length, the princess necklace
is fairly versatile. The princess pearl necklace is a nice
length for high necklines, plunging necklines, formal wear,
business attire, and casual wear. It is a popular length
pearl necklace because it is appropriate with many different
styles of dress.
The Matinee Necklace > 20 to 25
inches
A matinee necklace is 20 to 25 inches in length, and falls
to the décolleté. This pearl necklace length
complements high necklines, and lends an air of elegance
to a sophisticated or professional look. The Matinee pearl
necklace is also attractive with a formal black cocktail
dress, as well as casual wear.
The Queen’s Length > 31 to 32 inches
The Queen’s length pearl necklace is 31 to 32 inches
in length, but it is no longer a standard length sold by

The Opera Necklace > 35 to 36 inches
The opera length necklace, which is 35 to 36 inches long,
can reach the waist. This length pearl necklace can be dramatic
and luxurious in its appearance. It is versatile in that
it can be worn long with a high neckline, plunging v-neck
top or dress, or formal evening wear; wrapped into a double
pearl strand to form a classic two-strand choker pearl necklace,
or even knotted and paired with casual attire for a trendy

The Pearl Rope/Sautoir > 40 to 50 inches and longer
The pearl rope, or “Sautoir” is 40 to 50 inches
in length or longer. It hangs to the belt or below. Bold,
dramatic, and sexy, this pearl necklace length was reportedly
made popular during the 1920s and 1930s by Coco Chanel.
Today it is a stunning accessory for 1920s flapper-inspired
contemporary styles. Versatile, the pearl rope necklace
can be knotted, wrapped into a double pearl stand or triple
pearl strand, worn on the wrist as a pearl bracelet, or
worn as a pearl belt.
